End Offshore Detention

People who came here seeking safety deserve the same compassion that we’d expect for ourselves and our families. Yet for decades, successive governments have inflicted needless cruelty on refugees and people seeking asylum by abandoning them in unsafe and untenable conditions in Nauru and Papua New Guinea.[1]

It’s time to end offshore detention - exposing people to cruelty and torture has never made anyone safer, it just punishes people fleeing war and persecution.

Approximately one hundred people are currently marooned in offshore detention on the remote Island nation of Nauru by the Australian Government. They have been subject to human rights abuses, denied access to nutritional food and urgent health and mental health care.

At least 30 people have been abandoned in PNG following the closure of facilities on Manus Island. The Minister for Home Affairs is refusing to medically evaluate even the critically unwell people to Australia.

Labor is expanding Australia's offshore cruelty regime by signing a shady $2.5 billion deal with the Nauruan Government.

There has been no transparency around the Nauru deal, with critical details being blocked from public scrutiny.

Australian tax payers are spending $790 million on an American private prison company to warehouse just 100 refugees on Nauru.

The public deserves to know exactly how our tax payer dollars are being spent on punishing people seeking safety from war and persecution.

The cruelty of Australia’s offshore detention regime persists when it can be hidden out of sight. By forcing the human rights abuses into the light and demonstrating that we won’t stand for this cruelty we can put pressure on our MPs and the Minister for Home Affairs to end the great shame of offshore detention once and for all.

Write to your MP today to demand they speak up against Australia’s brutal offshore detention regime.

Email your MP - Deportations

The Albanese Government has started deporting people to Nauru. Everyone deserves to be treated equally under the law and not punished twice just because of where they were born.

Email your MP today and urge the Albanese Government to stop the deportations and end the cruelty of offshore detention.
