Lead With Humanity: A Call to the 48th Parliament

You’ve just heard from people who have lived through more than a decade of cruelty — separated from their families, denied basic freedoms, and forced to wait in limbo.

Their message to Parliament is honest, urgent and clear. It’s time for politicians to lead with humanity and act on the act on the values they were elected to uphold — freedom, fairness, and safety.

With Parliament resuming in the coming weeks, we have a rare and powerful opportunity to make sure those voices are not just heard — but acted on. What happens now will help set the direction for the next three years.

📧 Email your MP today and help deliver this message when it matters most.

Let them know that we're watching and we expect them to:

  • Pathways to permanency for those failed by the Fast Track process
  • Urgent medical evacuation and resettlement for people still trapped offshore
  • Repeal of the cruel 2024 Migration Act amendments
  • Basic rights and supports for people seeking asylum in the community

This is our chance to turn promises into action and make justice for refugees and people seeking asylum a defining legacy of the 48th Parliament.

Email Tips +

A short, personal email is one of the most powerful ways to influence decision-makers. Here's how to make yours count:

1. Introduce yourself
Let your MP know who you are and let them know you're within their electorate – as your local member, they have a responsibility to listen to and represent your community. You can mention your job, studies, or anything that connects you to the issue. Optionally, adding your full legal name and address may increase the chances of getting a response from your MP.

2. Say why you’re writing
Share why this issue matters to you. Did the stories shared in this video have a strong impact on you? Are you connected to someone affected by the Fast Track process or offshore detention? Do you care about fairness, human rights, or Australia's international reputation? A personal reason is powerful.

3. Be clear in your ask
Hold your MP accountable to the values you believe in. Ask a direct question – for example:
“Will you ensure that freedom, fairness and safety for people seeking asylum will be a priority for you over the next three years of Parliament?”

4. Strengthen your ask
You can include a key fact to support your message – for example, that over 8,500 people are still stuck in limbo because of the Fast Track process, or that the 2024 Migration Act amendments risk entrenching permanent uncertainty and harm.

5. Ask for a response
Let him know you expect to hear back. For example:
“I look forward to your response and will follow up if I haven’t heard from your office within a week.”

💡 Remember: your message doesn’t need to be long – 200 words is enough.
📣 Be respectful but firm. And most importantly, be yourself – your words are powerful.
